Board Treasurer

Andrew Chopanda, a dedicated and passionate social justice advocate with over twenty years of experience fighting for equality, justice and human rights in Zimbabwe, my native country and in the USA. Andrew is committed to empowering marginalized communities and challenging systemic oppressive systems anywhere in the world. His passion is in housing and making sure this human right is available to all regardless of race, color, sexual orientation and other isms that lock out people for this fundamental right, amidst plenty.

Since arriving in the USA in the early 2000s, Andrew has dedicated himself to matters of racial justice and equality, community organizing and activism, public speaking, policy advocacy and shining social justice light in some dark places where discrimination may rear its ugly head. Andrew is fond of saying “I did not leave my social justice advocacy jacket at the port of entry, I carried it right through to Kalamazoo and my record so far attests to that commitment”

Andrew has been a member of the Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community (ISAAC) since 2014 and was the Co-Lead of the ISAAC Housing Force during the campaign, mobilization and passing of the Kalamazoo City landmark Anti Housing Discrimination Ordinance in 2020. Andrew received training as a Community Organizer under the Gamaliel Foundation in Chicago that trains faith leaders in building political power and creating organizations that unite people of diverse faiths and races.

Andrew serves on three other Boards and is the current Greater Kalamazoo Metropolitan NAACP Housing Chairman since 2023. With experience in both private and public housing management, Andrew is employed with Open Doors Kalamazoo, as their Program Manager-Community Relations.
